IRISH TV CELEBRATES ROYAL NOMINATION FOR IRISH COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS
The 2016 Irish Country Music Awards (ICMA) show broadcast live on the global digital IRISH TV channel in May this year has been shortlisted for the best International Production in the Royal Television Society (RTS) Northern Ireland Programme Awards.
The Awards, which are scheduled to take place on Thursday 17 November at The MAC, Belfast, celebrate the best of creative talent and television production in the industry.
The IRISH TV 2016 ICMA took place on Thursday May 19th at the Armagh City Hotel and proved a spectacular event showcasing Ireland’s vibrant country music scene. Performing on stage were the cream of Irish country stars including Susan McCann, Roly Daniels, Philomena Begley and Johnny Brady with international country legends Larry Gatlin and Mo Pitney flying over especially to make guest appearances.
A repeat broadcast of the ICMA Awards will air on IRISH TV this Friday October 28th from 8pm-10.30pm.

Welcoming the endorsement from the RTS, Martin O’Reilly, Head of Production with IRISH TV stated: “We are absolutely honoured by this nomination. These are very prestigious awards which recognise the best of creative talent and television production. The IRISH TV Country Music Awards were one of the biggest live television broadcasts that took place in Northern Ireland in 2016 and this nomination recognises the collaborative efforts of all involved in the production.”
ICMA host Malachi Cush added: “I am absolutely delighted IRISH TV has been shortlisted for this award. IRISH TV was the first ever broadcaster to host such an event and the reaction from the audience at home and abroad has been very satisfying for all of us who worked on it. The RTS Society is supported by UK and global broadcasters, producers and consultants, including Principal Patrons BBC, BskyB, Channel 4 and ITV.
Originally founded as the Television Society in 1927, the Society was granted its Royal title in 1966 with HRH Prince of Wales becoming Patron in 1997. Each year the RTS stages a keynote event when global television leaders gather to discuss what the future holds for television at the body’s RTS Cambridge Convention in London.
Announcing the 2016 Awards shortlist the RTS revealed the Judges had a tough task selecting the final three for each category due to the high level of entries.
IRISH TV was nominated in the International Production category for the IRISH TV & Riverside Media: IRISH TV Country Music Awards, alongside two other nominees: Sixteen South: Lily’s Driftwood Bay and BBC Sport: Sports Personality of the Year.
The RTS Northern Ireland Programme Awards, chaired by renowned broadcaster Adrian Chiles, are held in association with Performance Film and Media Insurance and delivered in partnership with BBC Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and Channel 4.
